Gov't requests more funding meetings

July 07, 2015

The Government will ask the Legislative Council Finance Committee Chairman to call additional meetings from July 14 to 18 to handle outstanding funding applications for livelihood initiatives before the council breaks for the summer recess.

Speaking to reporters before an Executive Council meeting this morning, Chief Executive CY Leung said the Government had rearranged items to be discussed at the committee meeting to address economic and livelihood issues first, followed by the funding request for establishing an Innovation & Technology Bureau.

Mr Leung noted that only six of the 11 livelihood items put before the council had been passed so far, due to some legislators' continued filibustering.

He urged lawmakers to pass the livelihood funding applications, then discuss the Innovation & Technology Bureau's funding plan during the additional meetings.
