Security law not for HK

July 01, 2015

Chief Executive CY Leung says the new National Security Law adopted by the National People's Congress Standing Committee today does not apply to Hong Kong.

Speaking to the media, Mr Leung said Hong Kong, being part of the country, must protect the nation's security, but this is done through local legislation in accordance with Basic Law Article 23.

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has no plan to enact Article 23 legislation, he added.
