Chief Executive CY Leung today called on legislators to end their filibustering and not condone the delay tactic, which he said had wasted the time and energy of the Legislative Council, the Government and the community at large.
The Government today put 11 initiatives before LegCo's Finance Committee, including the relief measures outlined in the Budget, the construction of rehabilitation centres and a residential care home, the civil service pay adjustments and the establishment of a recycling fund.
"We do have a long queue of issues before, particularly, the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council, so I do call on them to give up either filibustering itself or condoning filibustering," Mr Leung said, adding that Hong Kong people expect a positive response from lawmakers.
The Chief Executive also expressed hope that the Government could build a new relationship with the legislature, noting that he has been meeting with legislators from different political parties to discuss how to address economic and livelihood issues in the coming two years.
