Acting Chief Executive John Tsang says top officials will continue to reach out to the public to promote the Government's political reform proposal.
He made the statement before attending this morning's Executive Council meeting.
When a reporter asked if the plan to promote the proposal had changed after some protesters shouted down officials in different districts, Mr Tsang said that the Government's promotional drive uses several different means to reach out to the public.
He stressed that there is still some time before legislators vote on the proposal for electing the Chief Executive by universal suffrage in 2017, and the Government will keep striving for the public’s support of it in the meantime.
Mr Tsang also responded to a comment from a local member of China's top advisory body that share prices may tumble if the Legislative Council does not approve the proposal.
He said there was always a connection between politics and economics, so he could not rule out this possibility.
