Chief Secretary Carrie Lam visited Amsterdam and Brussels on the opening days of her seven-day visit to Europe.

 

After landing inAmsterdam, Mrs Lam met with the Netherlands Hong Kong Society. She encouraged the society to continue to play an active role in promoting two-way economic and trade ties between Hong Kong and the Netherlands.

 

Mrs Lam met with the Hong Kong communities in both Amsterdam and Brussels. During these sessions, Mrs Lam briefed attendees on the newly-launched Admission Scheme for the Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents, encouraging them to look for opportunities in Hong Kong and consider moving back.

 

She visited the Belgian Comic Strip Centre in Brussels to learn more about Belgium's comic art, before attending a dinner hosted by Chinese Ambassador to Belgium Qu Xing.

 

Mrs Lam also met with Head of Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Union Yang Yanyi, to provide an update on the bilateral relations between Hong Kong and the European Union.

 

She also met with European Commission Vice President for Jobs, Growth, Investment & Competitiveness Jyrki Katainen and the EC's Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs & Fisheries Karmenu Vella.

 

Mrs Lam addressed a business luncheon attended by Belgium - Hong Kong Society board members, the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency and the Belgian business community.

 

She highlighted Hong Kong's latest economic developments and the opportunities arising from China's Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road programmes as well as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank initiative.

 

Mrs Lam met with Belgium Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Work, Economic Affairs & Consumer Affairs Kris Peeters.

 

Mrs Lam will meet with members of the European Parliament at a reception co-organised by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, Brussels and the EP - Hong Kong Friendship Group to update them on the latest political and economic developments in Hong Kong, before departing for Dublin.
