Chief Executive CY Leung today expressed his profound sadness at the passing of former Hong Kong University Vice-Chancellor Rayson Huang.
"Mr Huang was the first Chinese Vice-Chancellor of HKU and a person with vision. He dedicated himself to promoting the development of higher education in Hong Kong and led HKU to become a world-class institution," Mr Leung said.
"Mr Huang was the Vice-Chairman of the Basic Law Consultative Committee, on which I worked with him for many years. He was actively involved in the work for Hong Kong's return to the Motherland and made significant contributions to both our country and Hong Kong," he added.
The Chief Executive also extended his deepest condolences to Mr Huang's family on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
