Chief Executive CY Leung has said learning from the successful experience of Shanghai's free trade zone is important for Hong Kong's cooperation with a future trade zone in Guangdong.
Mr Leung visited the Shanghai free trade zone today to tour the facilities and learn about the operations of Hong Kong enterprises.
He noted that the Shanghai pilot free trade zone has been expanding as the country pursues reforms, adding that the Central Government last year announced plans to set up similar zones in other places including Guangdong.
Mr Leung said that as Hong Kong is close to Guangdong and the two places have established close economic and trade relationships, knowledge of how the free trade zone operates will benefit Hong Kong's economic development.
