March 02, 2015

The Chief Executive's new innovation and technology adviser, Nicholas Yang has said technology is evolving fast, so the Government needs a new vision and faster strategies to promote the development of innovation and technology.

Speaking to reporters after his appointment was announced this afternoon, Mr Yang described innovation and technology as crucial to boosting Hong Kong's competitiveness and improving people's quality of life.

He also noted that development of the sectors can broaden local youngsters' career opportunities and create a brighter future for them.

Mr Yang will collect and analyse views from the industry, with a focus on how Hong Kong can make the best use of its advantages under '"one country, two systems", and how to strengthen co-ordination between the Government, industry, academia and research sectors.

Aged 59, Mr Yang holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering & Applied Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology, as well as a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Stanford University in the United States.
