Chief Executive CY Leung has met with South Korean President Park Geun-hye and introduced her to Hong Kong's unique role as the super-connector between the Mainland and the rest of the world.
During his first official visit to the country, Mr Leung said he believed there is room for Hong Kong and Korea to co-operate more closely, and to identify new collaboration opportunities for their mutual benefit. He said he looked forward to forging closer cooperation with Korea on the creative industry front.
The two also noted that Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So and Korea's Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism Kim Jong-deok had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Creative Industries in Seoul today.
Mr Leung earlier visited an entertainment company which promotes pop music and culture. He encouraged Korean filmmakers to team up with Hong Kong partners for co-productions to enjoy preferential access to China markets under the Mainland & Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement.
He also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Yun Byung-se and Minister of Science, ICT & Future Planning Choi Yang-hee to exchange views on how to forge closer links between Hong Kong and Korea.
Mr Leung is scheduled to tour the Dongdaemun Design Plaza and visit the Samsung Innovation Museum tomorrow before returning to Hong Kong.
