CE urges calm clearance

(November 25, 2014)

Chief Executive CY Leung has urged protesters to co-operate with bailiffs executing court injunctions to reopen Argyle Street, and called on shoppers to return to the cleared area.

Briefing reporters before departing for Korea this afternoon, Mr Leung said the protracted occupation is illegal and, as Hong Kong is a law-abiding society, people should obey the law.

As the court has issued injunction orders, protesters should co-operate with them and not obstruct bailiffs enforcing the injunctions.

He added Police will act if bailiffs need help to clear barricades.

As business in the area has been hurt by the occupation, Mr Leung asked consumers to return and shop there after the clearance.

Meanwhile, on media reports the Philippines has lifted its blacklisting of nine Hong Kong-based journalists, Mr Leung said the Government will contact Manila to confirm the situation.
