Chief Secretary Carrie Lam met a Fujian delegation led by the Province’s Vice-Governor Zheng Xiaosong in Hong Kong this morning. Both sides agree to set up a Hong Kong/Fujian Co-operation Conference to boost co-operation.
The Chief Secretary and the Fujian Vice-Governor responsible for commerce and Hong Kong and Macau affairs will jointly lead the conference.
The first meeting will be held in Fujian in late January. The two sides will discuss ways to enhance financial, economic and trade co-operation and other areas for medium- to long-term co-operation.
The Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Bureau and the Fujian Government’s Hong Kong and Macau affairs office will be responsible for the conference’s daily liaison and co-ordination work.
Mrs Lam said the conference elevated the co-operation and exchanges between the two sides to a new level, and hoped to see the co-operation strengthen when visiting Fujian next January.
Chief Executive CY Leung led a delegation to visit Fujian in January this year and held a meeting with the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee Secretary You Quan. Both sides agreed to enhance co-operation and subsequently the two Governments discussed the mode and scope of co-operation.
