Pan-democrats’ views appreciated

October 31, 2014

The Government would like to exchange views and conduct dialogue at the Policy Address and Budget consultation sessions with all lawmakers on important issues regarding the economy, society and people's livelihood.

It said this in a statement in response to media reports that the pan-democratic lawmakers plan to boycott the consultations.

The statement said the Policy Address and Budget are important documents outlining the social and economic strategies and measures for Hong Kong, and every year the Chief Executive and Financial Secretary conduct comprehensive consultations, including meetings and discussions with lawmakers from all political parties.

The Government understands that pan-democratic lawmakers attach great importance to constitutional development, and says it will listen extensively to the views of various sectors in the second phase consultation. However the Government should not and could not overlook other important policy areas such as economic development, housing, poverty alleviation, care for the elderly, environmental protection and the nurturing of youth.
