War memorials to be held

August 26, 2014

Official ceremonies will be held on September 3 to commemorate China's resistance during the Second Sino-Japanese War, and on December 13 in remembrance of the Nanjing Massacre.

The Government made the announcement today, after the Central Government designated the two days as the Victory Day of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression, and Nanjing Massacre Memorial Day, earlier this year. The memorials will be held annually.

On September 3 a ceremony will be held at City Hall Memorial Garden to salute those who resisted Japanese aggression. It will feature singing of the national anthem, a gun salute, silence in mourning, and wreath laying.

The Chief Executive, senior government officials, judicial officers, Legislative Council members, representatives of war veteran groups, and the public will attend the ceremony.

On December 13 memorial activities will be held to commemorate victims who died in the Nanjing Massacre and those who were killed during the Japanese invasion.

The Government will also continue to hold the Ceremony to Commemorate Those Who Died in the Defence of Hong Kong on the Chung Yeung Festival.
