CE meets Shanghai exchange head

August 13, 2014

Chief Executive CY Leung met Shanghai Stock Exchange Chairman Gui Minjie at Government House today to exchange views on financial co-operation between Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Mr Leung said he attaches great importance to the preparatory work for launching the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect. He also expressed his gratitude for the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s support and assistance.

He said, since Premier Li Keqiang's announcement of the mutual stock market access between Hong Kong and Shanghai at the opening ceremony of this year's Boao Forum, the Government had been maintaining close contact with Shanghai to ensure the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect launches smoothly.

Mr Leung said Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect will promote the two-way opening up of both sides’ capital markets, and further enhance and reinforce Hong Kong as an international financial and trade centre, and promote the development of the city's securities industry.

He said there are other vast co-operation opportunities between Hong Kong and Shanghai in finance, economic and trade affairs, society and culture, and he hopes the two sides further strengthen co-operation.
