Good neighbours:  Chief Executive CY Leung meets with CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee Secretary Chen Luping.

Economic growth a priority: CE

March 28, 2014

Chief Executive CY Leung says addressing constitutional reform is a priority for the Hong Kong Government, but it is also focused on economic growth and will help enterprises develop in the Mainland and overseas.

Concluding a two-day visit to four cities in Guangdong today, Mr Leung said the Government needed to develop the economy to improve people's livelihood, and that Hong Kong enterprises needed to develop markets overseas.

He said Hong Kong enterprises in Shenzhen, Chaozhou and Shantou provided job and career-development opportunities for Hong Kong people. Hong Kong also benefited through their use of Hong Kong financial, professional and logistics services.

The Mainland is Hong Kong's largest economic partner and the social ties between the two places were close, Mr Leung said. The Government is interested in the well being of Hong Kong people and enterprises there. It also attaches importance to economic development overseas.

Mr Leung earlier met with CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee Secretary Chen Luping, CPC Chaozhou Municipal Committee Secretary Xu Guang, as well as Hong Kong people who study, work and do business in Chaozhou and Shantou.

He also visited a Shantou glass-crafting enterprise, a Shantou food factory and the Chaozhou Jao Tsung I Petite Ecole.
