CE willing to receive petitions

May 17, 2013
Chief Executive CY Leung is willing to receive petition letters, as long as it is under safe conditions and does not affect others.

The Chief Executive's Office made the statement today in response to claims by the Hong Kong Federation of Students, and a group of students from Caritas Institute of Higher Education, that Mr Leung did not receive a petition letter on May 16.

The office said confusion was caused when the May 16 activity was disrupted by protesters. There occurred situations in which the safety of participants might be jeopardised and the organiser of the activity had to seek Police assistance, it said.

As a result, Mr Leung was not able to receive a petition letter from the protesters.

He received a petition letter submitted by students while attending an activity at City University on May 6.
