August 09, 2012
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has pledged to boost Government support for the disabled and their carers.

Visiting the Direction Association for the Handicapped in Tiu Keng Leng with Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung today, she said the Government is deeply concerned about the many difficulties the disabled face in rehabilitation treatment, physical and mental healthcare, and social integration. She noted their carers must also withstand financial and psychological pressures.

"The Government is deeply concerned and will continue to strengthen our professional support to persons with disabilities and their carers," she said.

The officials spoke with the disabled and their carers to learn more about their aspirations for rehabilitation and medical social services, healthcare and training, and on the financial burden involved in seeking treatment and care-giving services.

They heard about the difficulties they face and the support they need in social integration and finding jobs.

Preparatory Task Force on the Commission on Poverty members Christine Fang and Law Chi-kwong also joined the visit.
