CE backs spill inquiry

August 09, 2012
Chief Executive CY Leung says he supports the investigation into who is responsible for the plastic pellet spill, no matter which company is found to be liable.

Speaking to the media today, Mr Leung said the pellets must be cleared and attention should be paid to whether mariculturists need the Government’s assistance, adding he will hold a meeting on the issue.

He said he has been concerned about the spill and has maintained close contact with Government departments involved in the clean-up. He thanked the people and organisations helping in the operation.

Meanwhile, he said he has also been discussing Hong Kong's housing issues, noting a survey found property prices and rents have reached record highs.

He noted concerns about iodine deficient infant formulae.

Lastly, he urged people to fairly consider points made by Secretary for Development Paul Chan and his wife regarding their property dealings. He said Mr Chan will handle the situation properly.
