More poverty advice sought

August 07, 2012
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has called on experts to advise the Government on implementing the Chief Executive's plan to re-establish the Commission on Poverty to tackle poorness at the policy level.

Mrs Lam made the call during a consultation session today.

Accompanied by Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung, together with Non-official Members of the Executive Council and members of the Preparatory Task Force on the Commission on Poverty, Mrs Lam noted the views of advisory committee members on existing policies and their implementation.

The officials enquired about the needs of people in different sectors of the community, and gained a better understanding of the committee members' expectations on alleviating poverty on the fronts of labour, education, welfare, family, and rehabilitation.

"We would like to thank the members of the advisory committees for their continued service to the Hong Kong public in their respective areas, as well as for sharing with us their experiences accumulated throughout the years,” she said.

Representatives of the Elderly Commission, the Women's Commission, the Commission on Youth, the Family Council, the Social Welfare Advisory Committee, and the Rehabilitation Advisory Committee attended the meeting.
