Housing chief's property clarified

July 07, 2012
Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung says a supplemental agreement was attached to the sales and purchase agreement on his Tai Po home, requiring the vendor certify there were no unauthorised works inside it.

In a statement on his home units today, Prof Cheung said he was aware of the alterations inside the two adjourning units before making the purchase.

The vendor also provided a certificate issued by an authorised person which certified the works involved in the demolition of the partition wall between the two units were of non-structural nature.

The transaction was completed in early June and he has not made other alterations.

According to Prof Cheung's understanding, some works in a building are exempted if they do not involve the structure of the building under Section 41(3) of the Building Ordinance.

The two adjourning units and a car park space cost him $16 million.
