CY Leung to become new CE

Speaking at a news conference after the election, Mr Leung pledged to safeguard the core values of Hong Kong, such as the rule of law, human rights, integrity, anti-corruption, freedom of the press, speech and assembly, promising that the rights and freedoms enjoyed now will be maintained during his administration.
 
Together with his political team and civil servants, Mr Leung also promised to set a good example and to run a clean and honest government.
 
Regarding this election, Mr Leung said the community participated through diverse channels, thereby laying the foundation for universal suffrage and the Chief Executive Election in 2017. He will review the experiences from this election and pave the way for enhanced democracy and an open and fair election system and a healthy election culture.
 
On social conflicts, Mr Leung vowed to resolve them to maintain the harmony and stability of Hong Kong. On economic and political polices, he said the new government will consult widely on measures to tackle the deep-rooted problems of uneven distribution of income, inflation, housing, medical services, education and political reform.
 
He said Hong Kong has many competitive advantages and must seize the opportunities offered by the country to ensure the economy continues to thrive and people's livelihood continues to improve. He said Hong Kong does not need major reforms, with a government to be suitably proactive and introducing change while maintaining stability.
 
Mr Leung said he is committed to being a Chief Executive for the people and to be accountable to all citizens. He promised to continue to go to the people to listen to their views.
